What are the main responsibilities of Formulation Technology at Envu?

At Envu, our Formulation Technology department comprises several key functions, including formulation & industrial development, analytics, study and specification data management as well as sample logistics & site management. Our primary responsibility is developing innovative formulations that meet customer needs while adhering to safety, regulatory and production requirements. This involves tasks ranging from transferring formulations to optimizing production processes and ensuring product quality throughout its life cycle.

What recent advancements or trends in formulation technology are relevant for our industry?

In recent years, formulation technology has seen a surge in complexity and demand, driven by a need for differentiation and efficacy. More active ingredients are being incorporated into formulations to enhance features and functionalities. Additionally, there’s a notable shift toward exploring nonchemical solutions like biologics and bio-stimulants to meet sustainability and customer demands. This trend aligns with regulatory priorities focusing on human health and environmental safety. As a result, there's a growing emphasis on using greener, bio-sourced and biodegradable raw materials, ensuring formulations are both effective and eco-friendly. Overall, these advancements underscore the evolving landscape of formulation technology, where innovation meets sustainability and regulatory compliance.

How do you stay updated with the latest developments and innovations in formulation technology?

Our innovation scouting team and business market research are two internal sources that help a lot. Reading scientific journals and patent applications, attending conferences, and collaborating with industry and academic partners are also important. Our raw materials suppliers have valuable insights into new techniques and solutions. We learn from formulation failures that may not work at the time, but they provide key learnings for future ideas and solutions. This type of on-the-job expertise sets the stage for more innovations.

How do you envision the future of formulation technology?

Many answers are already at our fingertips, but we’ll focus on the growing importance of artificial intelligence and data analytics in our daily innovation work. The embedded IT infrastructure within Envu opens up exciting possibilities for innovation.
